THE CHELSEA PHYSIC GARDEN CHRISTMAS FAIR

We're always delighted to highlight events on our patch, and this one is a very civilised way to inch your way into the festive season.

The annual Chelsea Physic Garden Christmas Fair takes place on the last weekend in November; an array of interesting and different Christmas present ideas, displayed in heated marquees in the grounds.

Expect everything from quirky jewellery and sumptuous cashmere to ceramics, woollen goods and handmade chocolates. And at the Tangerine Dream Café, try their signature game stew, as well as – naturally – mince pies and mulled wine.

When: Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th November 2015.

Where: Chelsea Physic Garden, 66 Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea SW3 4HS

Tube: Sloane Square

THE SNOWMAN

In the space of a generation, The Snowman has become almost as traditional as any Christmas carol.

Once again, he returns to the Peacock Theatre, Sadler’s Wells and will transport awestruck small children - and their dewy eyed parents - on a mystical adventure to the North Pole.

There are dancing penguins, reindeer, Jack Frost and, of course, Father Christmas who appears in a shimmering winter woodland. Spellbinding for children of four upwards, this is as far from the shopping mall Santa experience as you can get - and long may it continue.

When: 25th November 2015 to 3rd January 2016.

Where: Sadler's Wells Theatre, Rosebery Avenue EC1R 4TN

Tube: Angel

THE BARCLAYS ATP WORLD TOUR FINALS 2015

So, like almost every tennis fan on the planet, you tried and failed again in the Wimbledon ballot this year.

This event is a considerable consolation, and what it lacks in strawberries and cream it more than makes up for in blacked-out, floodlit drama.

This year, the titans return: Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, six-time former winner Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, Tomas Berdych and Rafael Nadal.

This event is the biggest indoor tennis event in the world, attracting more than 260,000 fans. The season finale also offers one of the biggest paydays in tennis: if Novak Djokovic can successfully defend his title he’ll collect $2.28m. Which should help a little with his Christmas shopping.

When: 15th - 22nd November.

Where: The O2 Arena, Greenwich, London SE10 0DXN

Tube: North Greenwich
