Nestled between the slopes of Mt Otto and the shore of Lake Gutiérrez, Arelauquen Golf and Country Club is a 700 hectare private estate 400 of which are home to a protected native forest reserve with riding and hiking trails.
Located in the Central Patagonian Lake District, Arelauquen is surrounded by the Nahuel Huapi, Arrayanes and Lago Puelo national parks. At the same time it only 15 minutes from the centre of the city of San Carlos de Bariloche on the shores of the 70km long Lake Nahuel Huapi and some 12 minutes from Cerro Catedral, the number one ski resort of South America. Bariloche has its own international airport and, thanks to the recently opened city bypass, it's a mere 25 minute drive to the front door of Ave Maria.
Arelauquen boasts a spectacular 18 hole championship golf course whose signature holes have views over Lake Gutiérrez to the snow capped Cerro Catedral. Next to the Starter and the Pro shop are the 19th hole and a recreation centre with indoor driving range and instruction facilities, squash and tennis courts. On the other side of the estate, facing the polo fields and stables is the fabulous 1300 m2 Club House with its bar, restaurant, games rooms, kids' area, fully equipped gym, massage rooms, semi-Olympic indoor/outdoor pool heated year round to 27 degrees and a professional sports director who will organize horse riding, mountain biking and trekking for owners and guests. And, as if this weren't enough, Arelauquen has its own "Yacht Club" on Lake Gutierrez where there are Lasers, Optimists and Zodiacs with outboards for water skiing and fishing.
What's more, it's situated just below Cassis restaurant, deservedly considered the best restaurant in Patagonia (though there's now plenty of competition in Bariloche!) And talking of fishing, the region is a world famous mecca for fly fishermen with an abundance of lakes, reservoirs, rivers and streams teeming with Rainbow, Brook and Brown trout.
Ave Maria is a traditional mountain style house set within the idyllic Arelauquen estate: It has 340m2 of construction and is set on a 3500m2 landscaped plot planted with native trees, fruit trees, roses, lavender, rosemary and many other types of shrub and flower, only minutes walk from the first tee of the golf course.
Built in local stone and rare cypress wood the house has 6 bedrooms of which 3 are en suite: 1 master suite with bathroom and dressing room, fireplace, 1 double guestroom with bathroom en suite, 1 x 2 bed guestroom sharing the suite's bathroom, 1 further double bedroom in the "tower", 1 mezzanine gallery currently equipped with 4 beds for grandchildren, family shower room, 1 self contained guest suite with open fireplace/barbecue, Staff bedroom with en suite shower and toilet Enormous living room (approx 50 m2) with 6m high cathedral ceiling and large fireplace with huge picture windows overlooking lake and mountains, separate dining area, Open plan kitchen communicating directly across a passageway with the living area.. The bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, entrance hall and staff quarters have under floor heating whilst the living room, dining area and guest apartment are heated by radiators from the natural gas boiler.
