THE VIRGIN MONEY LONDON MARATHON 2018
It feels like it’s been with us forever, but the London Marathon was first run in its current form only in 1981. A generation later, this institution has become the largest fundraising event in the world. This year will see around 38,000 competitors, ranging from world elite marathon runners to mildly unhinged (and astonishingly tenacious) runners sweating away inside spacesuits, gorilla costumes and pantomime horses.
For spectators, there are numerous vantage points along the route that starts in Greenwich Park, snakes around Rotherhithe and the City, and ends triumphantly under the gaze of Buckingham Palace.

THE CLASSIC CAR BOOT SALE
An event where the car is as interesting as what emerges from its boot, this is a procession of more than 100 classic cars – perhaps 1950s Cadillacs, 60s Jags and 70s Ford Capris – that are also selling gorgeous vintage goods. Curated by the Vintage Festival team, there will be everything from vintage fashion, glass and décor to treasured vinyl singles, albums and pop memorabilia. Live music, street food and entertainment complete the hopefully sunny spring vibe.

SONY WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS EXHIBITION
In the suitably splendid setting of Somerset House, the World Photography Organisation is presenting this year’s visual feast of work by professional and amateur entrants from all over the world.
Now in its 11th year, the exhibition shows the 500 entries that have made it through the selection process. The variety seems infinite: from ultra-glam fashion to hard-hitting photo journalism, to portraiture, sport and architectural studies.
A not inconsiderable prize awaits the winner, worth $25,000.
