Balearic Islands
Forming part of Spain, the Balearic island archipelago is located in the Western Mediterranean. The capital of the region is Palma de Mallorca, and the islands include Mallorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera.
This vibrant island has a well-deserved reputation for great parties, with travellers descending each summer hell-bent on having a good time. World-famous clubs such as Pacha keep the party going until the sun comes up, when everyone decamps to one of the many laid-back beach bars.
It's not just about clubbing, there is an elegant group of ex-pats living on the island year-round in beautiful villas set into the mountainous landscapes. Small villages inland offer a more authentic Catalan experience, which means there's truly something that everyone can enjoy here.Simply being so close to the UK makes Ibiza so alluring. Mallorca is the biggest island in the Balearic chain, and contains its capital, Palma de Mallorca. It's been welcoming visitors for years, as it's so easy to reach from abroad and has an excellent infrastructure.
The beaches here are the main attraction – they are sandy, sunny and not too crowded. Hiking is another big draw, and sailing is a popular activity. There are also a number of well-regarded golf courses.What you might not expect to find is such superb Gothic architecture. Hidden hilltop villages and shady olive groves all exist in abundance
